Last Saturday we drove up to Cleveland (actually Tremont) to visit the "A Christmas Story" house! It was soooo much fun to see where Ralphie lives...although, Crew didn't understand why Ralphie and Randy weren't there!!! haha! He kept saying "Ralphie wasn't home Momma!" We learned some fun facts about the house....like, did you know that the house was sold on EBay?! Or that the delivery guy that delivers the leg lamp was a local and still lives on this very street!?! Or that the city they name in the movie (Hohman, IN) doesn't really exist?!? Some pretty fun/interesting facts...there were a ton more that we didn't know! Since this film has become so iconic and since we live close, we couldn't pass up making the trip at least once...although, we almost didn't make it because we got lost (several times...damn gps) and the neighborhood was a little sketchy...but when we saw a ton of other people we felt a little more comfortable. If you like the movie and you live in the area I recommend checking it out...at least once :)
It was pretty busy the day we went up and I'm sure it gets really crazy in December and once the snow starts flying! We actually parked in the Bumpus' yard....hahaha!
The LEG LAMP!
Love the infamous leg lamp!
The actor that played the Dad was in his low sixties when the movie filmed and the mom was in her forties. And Jack Nicholson was initally offered the role as the Dad.
Love the blue bowling ball present! haha!
Where Ralphie comes down as the "pink nightmare!"
The house had been completely renovated with new siding, windows, everything and they had to reverse the age of the home again. It sold on Ebay for $150,000 and the guy who owns it put over $250,000 into this house, the museum and the gift shop...there are three total houses you visit. $10 per person and kids under a certain age (?) are free. Over 70,000 people have visited the home from all 50 states and they said many international visitors!
Some of the original costumes.
We met one of the elves...you can kind of see her behind this glass case sitting down...she's wearing a blue Gap sweatshirt.
Doll house being auctioned off.
We met this lady (the elf on the right)...she said she was a local actor...I asked if she was ever in any other films and she told me she was a stage actress...so I guess that meant no!?
And just because I love Chrismas Vacation with Chevy Chase and love these two lines out of the movie...
And my husbands favorite....haha!
And just in case you were wondering...yes, you can buy leg lamps in FOUR different sizes! Perfect for every room in the house! haha!
Now every time we watch the movie we can say we were in that house!
